Coach Malcolm Boatwright brings a detailed, position-specific approach to the Garden State Herd as the team’s Tight Ends Coach and Co-Special Teams Coordinator. With a clear understanding of how valuable the tight end position is within a modern offense, Coach Boatwright emphasizes versatility, discipline, and physicality in everything he teaches.

His coaching philosophy highlights the hybrid nature of the tight end role players must be strong enough to block defensive linemen and agile enough to run crisp routes and make key catches. Coach Boatwright expects his tight ends to be coachable, detail oriented, and relentless in their effort. To him, being physical and technique sound is just as important as being athletic.

In the receiving game, he trains his players to use their size and IQ to create mismatches and find open space. He stresses the importance of understanding the route tree, but also having the awareness to adjust mid play and remain in the quarterback’s throwing lane.

When it comes to the run and blocking game, his standard is clear: “If you can’t block, you can’t play.” Coach Boatwright prioritizes teaching technique, vision, and football intelligence because for him, tight ends aren’t just another position group they’re difference makers.
